The Red Sox have closed a deal that will bring Texas Ranger closer Eric Gagne to Beantown (only sad part is that Kason Gabbard is part of the deal and I had high hopes for him). He has been brought in primarily as a set-up man for Jonathan Papelbon (in addition to Hideki Okajima).

The trade that would bring Kevin Garnett to the Celtics has been sealed. His joining Paul Pierce and Ray Allen almost make the Celtics one of the pre-season favorites in the conference immediately. It's been so long since I could call myself a Celtics fan, maybe that long dark time is finally over.

Not a bad day, Boston sports fans

Can you freakin' believe this my friend????? I can't even sit still!! Barring major injuries - our already best in the league bullpen just went into a new stratosphere. Giving up Gabbard was kinda sad - i liked the kid - but the other two were junk tossins - Murphy's stock has been declining.

And Garnett...... we gave up alot, but wooohoooo!!!! I'm actually going to be watching celtics basketball for the first time in years - me f'in psyched.

(the only question i have.... is there still a team called the Bruins somewhere in Boston?)

Thats how I feel about basketball, I didn't know it was still around until all this commotion.

Little known fact about the NHL: Hockey hasn't had a referee or linesman arrested for betting on games.

:) hehehe

At least they don't run into the stands and..........oh wait that happened once before too not not for 30 plus years.

Five reason hockey is better

1. It's faster
2. Players have less ego
3. It takes the most amount of athleticism to play of all the sports
4. Any idiot can dunk a ball if tall enough but not any idiot can make a 100 mph slapshot while skating 20 mph on ice.
5. Hockey babes are hotter

Prediction.....injuries to all these new guys. Sorry Boston. KG is a horse, but Gagne and Ray Allen are brittle ballers....

Also..

Minnesota traded the World Champion Dallas Cowboys for Herschel Walker....perhaps they have now exercised that demon. However IMO, they took too many future-less playes and not enough draft picks.

It's gonna be an interesting NBA season for sure!

With the recent success of the Sox and Pats, I have no sympathy. I do hope for the NBA's(and yours) sake that the Celtics have a good year. It's always more interesting when the Celts are in the hunt.

P.S. - If you got poo on yer flowbie...you were cutting the wrong hair...cave-dude!

I would rather have gotten Jermaine Dye as the extra right handed bat off the bench, b/c Willy Mo is always a strikeout waiting to happen....

HOWEVER....Gagne is still one of the best in the game and you can NEVER have enough good pitching. This makes a strong bullpen even stronger.

As for Garnett, if you're a Celtics fan, how can you not love this deal? The team is back on the NBA map for the first time in 15 years.

(Now if the sports Gods could just do something to make the Bruins good again...but, actually, that would take a miracle of proportions likely beyond their reach).

I don't know. gagne's arm could fall off any moment. Not to mention the "steroid" issues. not in love with it to say the least.

CELTICS.... "New" Big-3
PATRIOTS.... Gonna make a Super Bowl run

City of Champions baby!!!

Remember 1986?

Pats in the Super Bowl
Bruins in the Stanley Cup
Sox in the World Series
Celts were the World Champs!

First time a city has ever done that....put every team in the championship game of their respected sport. The Pats season was 1985 that year but the SB was in Jan. of 1986 so it's a technicality.

The Celtics have got a heavy trio, but they need to get the job done now as those guys are all getting long in the tooth by NBA standards. It should be fun to watch them together (imagine the NBA being fun to watch...)
